job shadowing program gives students an opportunity to learn more about careers
in which they are interested and the skills that are needed to prepare them for
the careers. Los Fresnos High School is working very hard along with members of
the community and partners from business, industry, and higher education to better
prepare the students for the world of work whether work will begin right after

postsecondary cooperative education program started with a federal grant and has
been very successful in helping students to gain real-world experience; for many
of the students, the program ultimately leads to permanent placement in high-skills,
high-wage jobs.
Most of TSTC's associate degree and certificate programs participate in this program.
Hundreds of employers and students from the Valley and the state have participated. Entity

Science Technology | | Two-hour
block scheduling classroom learning with clinical application of the fundamentals
of personal patient care. Much learning also takes place by using the skill of
observing. Clinical experiences take place by rotating through different disciplines
at the hospital and at the nursing homes. Terminology and CPR first aid are also
taught. Safety and good citizenship are incorporated throughout the program.
Students completing this
program are eligible to take the state exam for certified nurse aides. Upon successful
passing of the state exam, they are awarded a state certificate. There must be
51 clock hours of classroom instruction with 24 clock hours of clinical instruction
as mandated by TDHS. Entity
